Worship at Grinnell UCC is warm, stirring, and alive with the grace of God. Our services begin at 10:30am on Sundays with fellowship following at 11:30. An ordinary service features a festival of music led from the organ and piano. During the program year worship is anchored by our faithful Balcony Choir, which includes an ensemble of Grinnell College singers. Children are always welcome in worship, and on most Sundays they are invited to come forward for a time of reflection and prayer with a member of the congregation. Each worship service is grounded thematically in a reading from scripture, which is the basis for a sermon. At Grinnell UCC we believe that good preaching speaks with relevance to our ordinary lives as well as to the social and cultural systems in which we live. Following the sermon, the congregation enters a time of prayer. Customarily, if not every single week, we have an opportunity to share our joys and concerns with each other. This is an opportunity for anyone to ask for prayers or to bring a prayer before God. The final movement of worship at our church is a call to share our resources for ministries that we pursue in common. The weekly offering is our grateful response to the generosity of God.
